The Gift of Childhood

This Christmas season is largely thought of as a time when children receive gifts. However, it can just as easily be thought of as a time to celebrate the gift that gave children. For as many as believe on the Gift are given the power to become the children of GOD. Of course, the Gift is the inheritance we are offered through the life of Christ. If only adults would receive that gift as freely as children receive presents in the Christmas season. Childhood again, without forced icky veggies, skinned knees, or bedtimes. Seems like a no brainer to me. Seriously, all of the pluses and none of the minuses. Especially since now we have hopefully come to understand the many rewards of obedience.

So, both now and through the New Year, as well as always, commit to being an obedient child to GOD the Father. Receive the gift of childhood in Christ by casting all of your cares upon Him. Adulthood is not about independent living and shouldering the weight of your life on your own shoulders. That mentality comes from the deception Adam and Eve fell victim to. Adulthood is about owning the process of making good decisions, which means humbling ourselves to the realities of Life without stubbornly rebelling. Here is the reality which Christ teaches, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Christ is our life and His commandments are not grievous. Ceasing from your own way of doing everything and trusting Him as your shepherd will restore youthfulness to your heart and give you a renewed liveliness, as a child without a care. Because you will find Him always to be faithful, loving, and true.

1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. (Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV)

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7 NKJV)

  1. That’s a great point that I don’t really think about. The fact that as adults we are program to feel to be very independent. We forget that we are children of God and what that actually means. To allow ourselves to be vulnerable and dependent on God our father. To feel comfort in being children in that sense.
