Renewing Your Strength to Love

How do we get the strength to love? The source of love is GOD. He is our inexhaustible resource. When ever we feel strained as a love resource to others, it is a sign that we need to spend more time with the source, GOD the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There are passages on this journey that require more resources of us than other ones. During these narrow, steep, and challenging passageways we have to lean into GOD’s presence even more. It may mean a fast of consecration, which requires more time in prayer, more study of scripture, and more communion with those spiritually mature. This means less time in the realm of fantasy and imagination for emotional escape.

It takes strength to love because loving involves work. A quick definition of work is sustained effort over time. For an effort to be sustained it takes commitment, and to commit takes intentionality, and to intend you must have purpose, and to have purpose you must have knowledge, and to have knowledge you must encounter GOD for He is truth. Though love can stir up emotions, it is primarily an intentional act of our will powered by the Spirit, based on principles of righteousness. Sharing love with others can produce the rewarding emotion of joy for both you as the giver and for those on the receiving end. This same joy can also be a source of refreshing which renews your strength. It can feel draining at times when the love you give is received as an overdue payment or not even acknowledged, which is why we have to keep in the forefront of our minds that GOD is our source.  The Lord is looking for vessels to pour through. The more you pour out the more He will fill you. You just have to be determined and watchful to abide in the source.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

(John 15:7-8 NKJV)
