Understanding People Who Suck

It is a fact that selfish people suck. I’m not saying that in anger or to be mean. Selfish people are like vacuums in that they function in a way that is always trying to fill themselves. While vacuums are powered by electricity, people that suck are powered by pride. The pride of life, which defies the selflessness of love, will always keep a person focused on their individual life before the well being of all. I pity those who are captives to the mechanisms of selfish pride because they are not free to know true fulfillment, peace, or love. Everything they receive is processed as a debt they are owed, and they are always looking to collect. This is a universal symptom of a broken heart.

A broken heart is unable to be filled so that nothing is enough. People with broken hearts have insatiable hunger. What that means is that they never feel fulfilled, there is always a nagging feel of lack which resurfaces. I have seen a few sci-fi films where scientist thought they could solve the scarcity problems of the world by either shrinking people or enlarging food, so that the needed resources become substantially more than what is needed. The logic in this seems sound but it dismisses the reality that the Creator has provided and abundance of everything we need. There are already enough resources available for everyone to have fulfilling lives. Even if you shrink people, they will still have enormous appetites if their hearts are still broken by unbelief. Only a heart made whole by the sure and eternal love of GOD can be filled and even overflow. That is why GOD sent a Savior able to heal the broken hearted instead of the knowledge of a shrink ray.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
(Isaiah 61:1 NKJV)

This is the prophecy fulfilled by Christ which came from the prophet Isaiah many generations before. I consent to the fact that based on how things appear and feel at times GOD and His provisions for a good life seem distant, but those who are able to stand righteously before GOD count Him worthy of their trust beyond how things appear or feel. They have surrendered their values for GOD’s values and except that eternal and spiritual life is the primary focus instead of carnal temporal life. People more highly esteem physical life so they horde physical things in the mindset that more physical things equate to more life. This mindset strives against the ways of GOD which calls us to abound in spiritual things while moderating physical things.

When spiritual life requires a season of leanness for purification, carnal life turns to the left and the right instead of going straight through. Detours can be appealing but they are very often longer routes. The bible speaks of some people who are ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of truth. We are tested on what we are taught so that we understand it genuinely and thoroughly. If you resist the test in carnal defiance, you never get to the next level. The Christian journey is narrow and constricting, working to purify us from the rudiments of this world. When we try to hold on to things from the world which make us feel secure, this corruptible excess makes it hard to move forward and cast distrust in the face of GOD. To be clear, I am not saying that GOD does not want to bless us with physical things in abundance, however if you have things, you are able to move about freely in compliance with the Spirit, but when things have you, then you are not free to move after the will of the Spirit. Our peace, joy, and strength must lie in spiritual things that are resistant to the trials which shake this earth.

As I write this, I am going through a trial of my faith similar but not equal to Daniel in a lions’ den, the three Hebrew boys in the furnace of fire, and Moses when he was cornered by the Chariots of Pharoah against the Red Sea, but I thank GOD for proving before hand that He can make a way when there appears to be no way. I thank GOD that in our weakness He shows Himself glorious and strong on our behalf. I know that trials come to pressure test our hearts for leaks, to ensure we can hold what our loving GOD is preparing to give us next. So, I press forward while cutting loose everything that is causing resistance. Believing that the Good Shepherd is still guiding me to green pastures and calmer waters. So instead of looking back to what was, I maintain my focus on Him to make sure I am not lost. Besides, how can I point people to GOD if I have lost focus of Him myself and how can I counsel people through desert passages if I have never completed one.

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. (2 Timothy 2:3-7 KJV)
