Storing Your Heart With GOD

Out of the book of Proverbs we are taught to protect the heart for out of it flows the issues of life. What you consume with your focus enters your heart, so be careful of what you entertain. Whatever fills your heart will saturate your life, just as blood from the heart saturates your body. So, fill your heart with the Word of life. For good fruit to issue from your heart Christ has given us the key.  

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 NKJV)

To protect is to preserve, and the only way to preserve your heart is to keep it free of contaminants. In other words, we should keep our hearts pure. Here is what contaminants can produce.

“For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:” (Matthew 15:19 KJV)

This is why GOD commanded that we fill our hearts with Him above all else.

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30 NKJV)

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matthew 10:37 NKJV)

In the book of Matthew chapter 6:19-24, the Savior is recorded teaching that a divided heart is compromised by darkness, but a faithful heart will be full of light. When the heart is full of light it is easy to know and follow the will of GOD. Following the will of GOD fills your life with peace, joy, and confidence. Dedicating the heart in this way fortifies it against the fiery darts of hate and fear, and against the seductions of lust and pride. Satan scours our lives for hold outs to the commands of GOD. These hold outs are areas in our lives we have not yet released to the trust of GOD’s love. So, they become doorways of darkness that are vulnerable to the assaults of the wicked one.  A person’s heart will always be stored with their treasure. The real riches of life are all in GOD, and so is the safest place for your heart.
