A Christian brother of mine, who happens to be White, recently asked me to help him understand the grievances I have with identifying America as a Nation founded on Christian values. Though he and I are siblings through rebirth in Christ, he recognized that we had different perspectives on America’s history and its correlation to the division in the Church and society abroad. I am sharing in the post the counsel I offered him. Christ asked the Father to sanctify the Church by His truth that we might be one, as He and the Father are one. It is in the spirit and heart of that request that the words of this post are inspired. I pray that it quickens your spirit and ignites a fire in your heart that aids in devouring all carnal and impure affections for this present world. The Church has been called to unite in the bond of love and truth, and all impurities must be removed from the heart before the bond can be perfected.
When I see people, especially white men, endeavoring to ascribe some type of
Christian divinity to the United States, I see a struggle to accept the reality
that they believe in, or have believed in something that is evil in root. The
implicit bias toward White identity can be so obvious when discussing the
founding fathers of the United States. Despite the fact that these men did not
have the love of GOD in their hearts, I have had many Christians suggest they
were still somehow inspired by the Holy Spirit. The first drafting of the
Constitution in 1781 (Articles of Confederation) was by White men and for White
men as demonstrated in the practice and enforcement of it. The error in the
line of thinking that the Constitution was divinely inspired is an
unwillingness to accept the reality of the founders’ selfishness. The
Constitution was inspired through the founders’ own battles against oppression
and marginalization and stood to ensure “THEIR” rights were never suppressed
again. The entirety of the bible had been printed into English since 1612. Over
a century earlier. The founding documents didn’t include verbiage to liberate
Non-Whites and women until close to 150 years (19th Amendment-1920)
after the founding of this nation, and this was due to public protest and
outcries. The Civil Rights Act (1965) which came to protect the rights of
non-whites came almost 200 years later after many lives had been sacrificed in
protest. It is clear the spirit behind those founding documents wasn’t the
heart of GOD which would have “ALL” men to be saved. If you are brave enough to
open your eyes today, you will see that the demographic omitted in the beginning is still largely
marginalized.
It is very evident that there is much darkness in the world today when even
Christians struggle to understand what equality looks like. The demand of
equality is not about obtaining equality to the lives of White people, it is
about everyone being given the liberty to live as GOD has spoken through His
word. It is about making way for the abundant life which Christ purchased for
all men on the cross. It is the rule of law that establishes that everyman’s
behavior should reflect a desire for His neighbor to have all the benefits,
opportunities, and support they wish for themselves. As you can see, we are far
from this standard of equality.
Many Christians are offended at revealing these facts. They are not open to
considering the corruption that is in the world today through examining the
roots of the evil. The root is evil selfishness expressed through the love of
money. As Dr. Martin Luther King expressed, “America is bound by the strongholds
of Materialism, Militarism, and Racism.” If we are not willing to confront the
darkness of these evils, they will continue to abound. No one has ever
abolished what they haven’t first learned to hate. How can you learn to
hate what you are unwilling to acknowledge? This takes me back to the beginning
of this writing. If you cannot accept that the United States was founded by a group of men void of the love of Christ, you will not be able to see all the
systemic issues and improvements needed today. Furthermore, you will wrongly
interpret the root of the social ills plaguing society today and we will have
the continued tragedies associated with the blind leading the blind. There will
continue to be a blind patriotism supporting the love of money over people. You
will also continue to see those who oppose Materialism, Militarism, and Racism
called Un-American. This label of Un-American for those who champion the
oppressed, exploited, and marginalized proves historically accurate. A true
understanding of the history of this country would cause any man who loves
Christ to be offended at labeling America a Christian Nation. Consider what the
Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 6:11-18 for American
Christians. For effect I have substituted Christians in America for the
Corinthians.
11 O Christians in America! We have
spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. 12 You
are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by
your own affections. 13 Now in
return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with
unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?
And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And
what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an
unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the
temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God
has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
17 Therefore
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:11-18 NKJV)
The call of GOD is not for His people, at this time, to be physically
removed from this world, but for them to remove their affections from the
treasures of this world and to place them in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is to
the end that the hearts of His children may be enamored with Him instead of
being entangled in the corruption of this world.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the
world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in
him. 16 For all
that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (1
John 2:15-16 NKJV)
Is the country of the United States part of this world? Of course it is but through American nationalism, reinforced by deceived Christians, America has been lifted above the rest of the world despite its deadly materialism, militarism, and racism. Christians will quickly admit that all men have come short of the glory of GOD and need salvation through Christ but why is there this resistance to admitting that America is as corrupt as any other nation on this planet, filled with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. Here is a test for you. I am going to replace the word world in the verse I just quoted with America and see how it hits you. See if the nationalist propaganda we have been programmed with cause you to be offended.
15 Do not love America or the things in America. If anyone loves America, the love of the Father is not in
him. 16 For all
that is in America—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of America.
You can call that the “No idols before GOD, standing for the Kingdom of Christ alone” version of John 2:15-16. It is hard to digest that when you have been pledging allegiance to the flag since you were a child and saying, “GOD bless America.” A real Christian nation would be pledging allegiance to the Kingdom of Christ and saying, “GOD bless the world.” Christ so loved the “world” that He gave His life that the “world” might be saved, not just America. This world will be saved when Christ returns and enforces His rule over the kingdoms of this world. If these seem like radical ideas it is because you have not yet accepted an identity based on Christ alone and you need to repent of adultery because GOD says you must love Him with “ALL” of your heart and put nothing before Him. To be saved, we have to be born again, and the old must pass away for the new. We all must abandon the affinities of this world that we might be married to Christ. It is only through marriage that we are entitled to His name and become heirs to the promises of salvation. May GOD bless your ears to hear the truth of His word and I pray that the light of the counsel of GOD’s word brings liberty and sanctification of the spirit, unto the formation of true bonds of unity by love pure and holy.
It was brought to my attention that some people might be offended at my reference of “White ” in regards to Caucasian people. Due to the world that we live in, people tend to have different experiences based on their natural origins. This is due to the amount of racism that exists in the world. Especially in countries where the enslavement of people is/was legalized based on an ethnic divide. In such countries, racist propaganda is embedded deep into the society to subordinate systems of oppression. Those that grow up in these societies have been blighted with unconscious biases and prejudices that take intentionality to uproot. This is why many corporations have begun implementing “Implicit Bias” training to help their staff steer clear of conforming to social trends that are the product of lingering racist conditioning. In America, since slavery and racism has been central to its development as a nation, the majority of its citizens have fragments of prejudice remaining in their ethos.
This article addresses some of the misinformation and propaganda that make it difficult to overcome the barriers of unification between people intentionally divided by evil for exploitation. In the article, I am sharing a perspective that informs a blind spot I have found in many people that are identified as “White,” especially those in America. I have found that sharing truth to adjust a person’s perspective of history can eliminate blind spots for better navigation towards unification. Receiving the truth brings liberation, and liberation brings unity within reach to those who seek to become one through Love.
