My prayer is that we will be one in Spirit and in Truth. To facilitate this, we must not lean unto our own understanding but rather allow the Lord to establish His standards in our hearts. We have been called to new birth, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Surrendering to the engrafted Word by the Spirit establishes us in the will of GOD and empowers us to fulfill our call. This new birth calls for us to abandon the standards, opinions, and feelings of men unto the pleasing of the Father. This leads to singleness of heart. Our union as the children of the Father lie in a place without the camp, even where Christ was crucified. That is our rallying point, where we are likewise crucified to the affections of this world. In newness of life we put on Christ, and we awaken to find ourselves united in Spirit and Truth. That walk to the rally point can seem lonely at times. It reminds me of the wedding vows where the bride and groom vow to forsake all others and cleave to each other. Christ had to forsake the glory of heaven to cleave to us. Now we have to forsake this world to cleave to Him.
All who claim to have crossed this divide truly have not. They have only traveled a safe distance away from the camp. It is not yet out of their range of view or sound. The disunity in the church today exists in the distance between the camp and the cross. Once we cross that distance to lose our lives, then we find our life in Christ. We all have a desert to cross. It must be crossed one day at a time with our eyes fixed on the Lord, so we can receive bread from heaven and living waters that we may have the strength to cross. We can pray for those that lag behind and call them to press forward, but we are not to turn back. The Lord will shepherd everyone personally as in the twenty third Psalm. The rally point is at the cross. The unity comes from carrying the cross.
