The Apostle Paul wrote in a letter to Timothy that the love of money is the root of all evil. It is important to understand the basis of this statement because it takes us all the way back to Adam and Eve in the garden. There was no money or form of currency being exchanged in the garden because it was not needed. YAHWEH had freely provided everything needed to thrive joyfully. Though money wasn’t present, the evil represented by money which Paul referred to was conceived into the world. To see where I am going with this, take a look at the scripture below from Ecclesiastes.
A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; But money answers everything. (Ecclesiastes 10:19 NKJV)
Money can be used to respond or answer to any problem you have. It may not bring about a solution, but it can propose other options that satisfy the soul momentarily. Money has become the answer many people seek instead of YAHWEH, the Creator and source of all good things. The serpent fabricated a problem and then offered a solution other than YAHWEH. YAHWEH is the source of life and everything that is good in it. To turn from Him to another answer is the doorway to death and all evil. The counsel of Christ our Savior, as He works to reconcile us back to GOD, addresses this basis of all evil.
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (money). 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (Matthew 6:24-32 NKJV)
Christ is reminding us that our heavenly Father is the answer that addresses all of our true needs. I emphasize true needs because just as the serpent did in the beginning with Adam and Eve, he continues to fabricate false needs to turn our hearts from GOD to other answers. The deception of Satan is behind materialism and the quest for power and popularity. Once you turn from GOD you are in the realm of darkness, and you become vulnerable to the wiles of Satan.
You can see Satan working behind the scenes invoking greed and creating fears to lead astray and to enslave and destroy. Satan has been manipulating man, whom YAHWEH gave authority in the earth, to use this blessing to destroy one another. This was Satan’s goal from the beginning. This is why even in the face of extreme gun violence there is still resistance to enforce common sense gun regulations. This is why even when COVID has exposed huge gaps in our healthcare system there is still resistance to a robust plan to extend universal healthcare for all. This is why the connection between poverty and the social ills of crime and mental illness gets thrown out and there is resistance for a living wage (similarly as GOD provided in Eden). Greedy and influential people are getting “filthy” rich off the sale of guns, the current healthcare system, and the current means for making a living.
The Apostle James prophesied correctly regarding the effects of turning from the spiritual and substantive answers in YAHWEH to the carnal and temporary solutions of a poisoned mind. The venomous deceit of Satan is the poison.
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:1-8 NKJV).
The Apostle James directs us back to the counsel of Christ that I quoted earlier. Man cannot be double-minded and try to serve two masters, which happen to be the reasonings of their own warped mind or the counsel of YAHWEH. Until men repent of their rebellion against GOD, which comes from the conspiring of the wicked one, they will continue to be lost in darkness and vulnerable to the evils of destruction.
Amen, So True!
