Barabbas or Christ, who would you pick? In the days when Yeshua walked the earth in the flesh, there was government corruption, over taxation, and government sponsored racial and religious oppression, and the Jews were sick of it. Christ taught, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” He made himself of no reputation by disputing the politics of that day or speaking against Caesar. He kept the focus on the Kingdom of GOD and the responsibility of the individual to love at all times, both friends and enemies, regardless of what was going on. The Jews of that day had their hearts entangled in the cares of the world, which resulted in Barabbas being chosen for release instead of Yeshua. Who are you releasing today with your choice of expression, Barabbas in the concerns of this world or Christ in the things of the spirit?
Those that consider themselves ambassadors of the Kingdom of GOD, should reflect the culture and customs of their King. We should go about preaching the gospel without getting entangled with the affairs of this world. The Word tells us that no man warring for the Kingdom should get entangled with the affairs of this world that he may please the one that called him to be a soldier in the first place. As ambassadors for Christ, we have given up the right to free speech. We have become the bondsman of Christ. We yield the members of our body to serve Christ. What people often refer to as free speech is actually creating a lot of debt. We need to be careful now more than ever because we have mega-phones like Facebook and twitter that can carry our words to thousands. This influence is a great responsibility. It is from the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. It is what we fill ourselves with that eventually comes back out. Our communication reflects our meditation. If you have been occupied with the bickering and cares of this world, that is what will reflect out onto the world. If you are predominantly consumed with the heart of GOD and the Word, then that is what you will reflect out onto the world.
The apostasy, or the falling away of the church, that is predicted to occur in the last days, is an event of the heart. It is being facilitated a great deal by social media and the constant influx of information concerning the cares of this world. It takes an exerted effort not to get drug in, not to click, not to view, not to comment, on all the stories publicized. Just like the parable that Yeshua taught, the cares of this world will choke the Word and keep it from finding expression in your life. The impact of falling away from Love is division instead of unity. The impact of everyone just saying whatever they feel in a public arena, without first considering if it is motivated by Love (which is the culture and custom of GOD’s Kingdom) is polarizing. Just because you can find a bunch of people that feel the same way you do doesn’t mean it is right or worthy of expression. Remember it was a majority that choose Barabbas to be released and he is still the popular choice today.
