To Soar In The Spirit You Have To Be Hard Core

Deuteronomy 7:2
“And when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.”
These are the instructions given to the children of Israel right before going in to possess the promise land. Take a minute and get a feel for the uncompromising mindset that Yahweh commanded them to have as they went in to possess the land. Make no deals, show no mercy, and utterly destroy.
Joshua, Moses successor, was a foreshadow of our Christ. Jesus Christ and Joshua actually were called by the same name in Hebrew, Yeshua. Understand that Yeshua leading the children of Israel into the promised land of their inheritance is a direct correlation to Yoshua, the Christ, leading the redeemed church through the salvation of the soul. The children of Israel fought Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Canaanites, and so on. We do battle with envy, greed, selfishness, lust, idolatry and so on. Though our enemies are somewhat different, we should have the same uncompromising approach when it comes to dealing with them. Make no deals, show no mercy, and utterly destroy.
Our Canaan land is our redeemed soul and our enemy is fleshly oriented living or carnal life. Carnal life is dominated by the pride of self-preservation and pleasure. When the Word or Yoshua, convicts us of a carnal habit or behavior then is our opportunity to side with Yoshua and go to battle against it to utterly destroy it. Don’t take a sympathetic approach when conviction comes, “show no mercy and make no deals” get rid of whatever it is. Today, many followers of Christ have taken a merciful approach to dealing with the enemies of the soul and that is why you can hardly make any distinction between those who are supposed to be born again and those who are dead in their sin. You seldom see the born again because few are willing to put the carnal man to death. The carnal man represents the man who was born from a carnal birth and was shaped by worldly orientation through being subject to the influences of a deceived and wicked world. The carnal man will be merciful to carnal living and would rather compromise with the enemies of the soul rather than destroy them. He is double minded, trying to serve the flesh and live spiritual at the same time.
The carnal man compromises with the flesh…the new man mortifies the flesh, for this reason the carnal man has to be destroyed before the enemies of the soul can be destroyed. That’s where the cross comes in.
We have to apply the cross to the carnal man with his carnal mind and carnal appetites. When we put the carnal to death then we are free to make a strong alliance with Yahweh unto victory over our enemies.
This is why the children of Israel that were born in Egypt had to first be eliminated out of the tribes before the promise land could be taken. They would have made alliances with the inhabitants of Canaan land and joined them in the very activities that brought the wrath and judgment of Yahweh. It took forty years for them to die out and for another generation to be made ready.
The carnal man has to be crucified because he is not going to do right. Only the new man of the spirit can enter the kingdom of Yahweh. That is why the scripture says we must be born again. YOU have to mortify and abase your carnal inclinations. YOU have to crucify the carnal man. Christ is not going to do this part for you; it is your reasonable service as it says in Romans 12:1.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
If this makes you feel a little heavy it is because you are looking back instead of ahead. You must be convinced that the one that made you can do a better job at fulfilling you than you can yourself. If you will surrender your life into the hands of the one that made you then He will perfect the work He started. Things work best when they operate according to their design. You were designed to live a spiritual life; it’s time to stop being ruled by the carnal man. The promise land of abundant life is yours for the taking.

Make no deals, show no mercy, and utterly destroy.

  1. I think one of the hardest thing a Christian has to do is crucify his old flesh, most don’t know what that looks like. The example of Christ while perfect, to many seems antiquated as the challenges and pervasive nature of sin is common place now. I believe Christ tackled every sin that a man can be challenged with as they are compartmentalized into to three things only: The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life. While these things require daily nourishment in the word to prepare one to fight daily. At the core of the matter is a transformed heart that eschews evil, and hates sin, this is the power of YAHWEH in our life through the HOLY SPIRIT. I don’t think any man can boast that he crucified his own flesh, but submits himself to sanctification. I think he can pursue the LORD and fight for righteousness in right doing, but until he receives the HOLY GHOST and has his heart transformed it is a battle of will power he can’t sustain. I believe in Romans that we understand that we are given power over sin through the HOLY GHOST. to walk in that takes daily rituals of prayer and reading. There is going to be some fasting in that walk and some accountability and transparency with fellowship of the brethren. That is the work, and if a man will not do that he is not serious and can’t win this.

    • Jeff, thanks for your response and taking the time to read and dig into the post. As these are weighty topics, they deserve full expression so I actually did a part two in order to adequately address your response. So, please go to the post entitled, “Being Hard Core requires Firm Decisions.”

a problem with a lot of so called re-born Christians is that they do think they do not have to do anything any more to please God because they are saved for ever. They do not worry to sin, because they trust in that eternal salvation (according to them).

Today, many who call themselves Christian are not really followers of Christ, because they do not follow the teachings of Christ Jesus and they do not take up the task of preaching which Jesus asked his followers to do, going into the world telling the Good News.
Those so called reborn Christians are not exactly in a reborn body or are not a reborn soul. This would demand a transfiguration of their personality and the majority prefers to stay the same as they were before, keeping doing the same traditions, celebrating the same pagan holidays and doing the same pagan activities.
Of many of them it can not be said that they have taken a merciful approach to dealing with those around them who think differently. They also do not work against the enemies of the soul because they are convinced that there are no works of faith. Though theyforget the essence of the parables of Christ and the warnings of the rabbi and his disciples, like the saying of the apostle James who clearly tells us that faith without works is death.
When we look at the behaviour of many Christians we cannot see any difference between a believer in Christ and in an atheist. Sometimes we see that the atheist behaves more accepting to people with other ideas than the Christian. We often see atheist who are less aggressive to others than those who call themselves Christian. We also get more agressive talks and bad names calling from so called Christians than from atheists. Therefore no wonder when we look at the world today we can hardly make any distinction between those who are supposed to be born again and those who are dead in their sin.
Not many today are interested in putting the carnal man to death. There are even Christians who do believe they never had a carnal man in them, because they believe they never were born from a carnal birth.
Today the carnal man willing to be merciful to carnal living and preferring to compromise with the enemies of the soul rather than to destroy any connection with them makes that the filth continues to spread and children of those people do not get the right good examples of Christian living and the Jesus like attitude.
Nothing has changed much over the centuries. Today we still see the double minded, trying to serve the flesh and live spiritual at the same time.
