A task that has been pressed upon me lately is making sure all those who seek to follow Christ understand the holy priesthood they are being called to. This priesthood is an election where GOD alone elects the priest. You will certainly be disqualified if you are seeking to please men because GOD alone is the ruler of all things, and it is by His standard alone that the priests are qualified. This is the priesthood where the only sacrifice which is accepted is the offering of the priest himself in the surrender of obedience. This is the priesthood our Lord speaks of in Psalm 50:5-23.
Our Lord is not accepting rituals and works performed without the devotion of the whole heart. The offering you give gets its savor from your heart, so if you have lust, hate, unforgiveness, idolatry, pride, or any foul thing fuming in your heart as you give your offering, then it is not pleasing to GOD. However, when the heart is broken and contrite and saturated with thanksgiving, the offering is a sweet smelling savor unto GOD. The rejected offering of the defiled heart is self-will. The acceptable offering of the pure heart is obedience to GOD. Don’t be deceived by vain imaginations or vain words, but rather abide in cleansing truth and the fire of the Holy Spirit. The priesthood that came through the law of Moses was fulfilled by the High Priest of Christ when He gave the perfect sacrifice of His own body and blood. Praise be unto the holy and righteous Lamb of GOD who took away the sins of the world!
We have been called to a priesthood after the order of Melchizedek. The only way into this holy order is through the cross of Christ by partaking of His death and resurrection. Many are called but few are chosen.
