I think the popular religious interpretation of “sorrow” as described in Genesis 3:16 is off the mark. People speak of the sorrow that Eve was cursed with as physical pain, but this sorrow speaks to emotional grief and strain which is painful to the heart and soul. The same word is used in reference to men being cursed with eating from the ground in sorrow all his days. We don’t see a similar interpretation being taught regarding man eating meals in physical pain.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; (Genesis 3:16-17 KJV)
The multiplied sorrows of Eve in conception comes from her life partner being spiritually emasculated an unable to love her. As a consequence of man and woman being separated from GOD by sin, they have also become separated from one another through losing the ability to be one in Love. Even though they would outwardly share a bed and a home and a family, they would be internally separated by fear and doubt. This inner turmoil would continue to surface from generation to generation in the form of strife over power and control. GOD pronounced who would when that battle, and even unto this day men oppress and dominate women not loving her and acknowledging her as an equal partner in life. The world is now a place where women have conception with hearts grieved by fears and concerns amid a world filled with hate and division.
Woman continues to strive for power and control by whatever means she can to secure her own life and destiny. When you understand the sorrows of her heart in the context of the evils of this world, and her genuine need for love and security, you understand the source of her fight for the right to abort. It is a way to address the multiplied grief that accompanies the thoughts and realities associated with bringing a child into this evil world. Laws against abortion is the way spiritually emasculated man continues to express his quest for dominance through power and control. The way to stop abortions is by loving woman instead of crushing her through dominance. The way to address the problem of abortions is by removing the trauma surrounding woman’s life so that she can conceive in peace and joy.
Why are there so many churches preaching and advocating for laws against abortion instead of preaching and advocating against the dominance that has been crushing woman throughout history? Where is the church’s call for misogynistic men to repent and return to GOD for restoration to true manhood after the likeness of GOD? The reason that the church is failing in this way is because too much of the darkness from the world has infiltrated the church and too little of the light from the church has penetrated the world. The light of the church has been dampened by the fear of man and the love of money.
The light of the church is the Spirit of Truth and when the church refuses to preach the truth then darkness prevails. Just like the absence of a collective church voice which prolonged the atrocities of Black enslavement, there is an absence of a collective church voice today which is prolonging the mistreatment of woman. Just to be clear, when I refer to the church, I am referring to the collective body of people who confess they believe in the gospel of Christ and confess His lordship over their lives. When you read the accounts of Christ’s ministry as a man, look at how He ministered to woman, and the desire He expressed to restore her heart. Take a close look at His interactions with the woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery, and the woman with the alabaster box of oil. These accounts are packed with the type of compassion and empathy the church should be showing woman today.
There are bundles of tares all over this world professing to be wheat, but their perdition is evident in their denial of truth and compromise. I am calling for all those who truly love Christ to give voice to the Spirit of Truth within. The sword of the Spirit is a mighty weapon, and it is time to destroy the veils of darkness trying to obscure the gospel of Christ and the revelation of GOD’s love. Yes, this is a message of empowering woman, but it is a message of empowering her through empowering GOD in the lives of both men and women for the destruction of the root of hate, doubt, and fear. Through Christ, the power of the curse is broken because He is the doorway to the restoration of the union between man and woman and Love, as they meet in the new life in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Does accepting Christ relieve woman of the physical pain associated with giving birth? No, it does not, but there is real salvation from the sorrows of despair which grieve her heart and soul through the revelation of GOD’s love by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the promise of GOD, and it is as sure as the sun which rises each day. Satan has won some battles, but Christ has won the war! Believe it and receive it!
