In Genesis 6:5, the Spirit of GOD testified that as a result man’s heart being filled with evil imaginations and thoughts continually, the earth became filled with wickedness, which merited a great flood. This aligns with the teachings of Christ in Matthew 15, where He states the evils that corrupt man come from a heart filled with evil. This is why we are encouraged by the writings of Paul to the Corinthians to be diligent to cast down thoughts and imaginations that arise in our hearts which are contrary to the Word of GOD. Paul calls this spiritual warfare against evil. So, we have been given great warning regarding the need to maintain pure hearts. The cross is where we take our evil thoughts and vain imaginations from this world to die. To see love purely as intended by GOD, we must die to our own versions of it.
